Air Ambulance Goes Green!

Your Clothes and shoes can now be recycled into money

L W Sait & Sons have launched a new Textile Bank initiative to help support the Surrey Air Ambulance and we are seeking venues to position them. Can you site a bank in your car park, or do you have a suitable space with vehicular access that will allow the local community to drop off their unwanted clothes and shoes which are then recycled to help raise vital funds for your Air Ambulance? If so, L W Sait would like to hear from you. The charity will benefit from the profits raised from the sale of materials collected. There is good news; it won’t cost you a penny to show your support in this way! To request a bank or for more information please contact Helena Sait on 01795 424404 or email info@philthebag.co.uk

Even more good news… We have our first venue courtesy of Chiddingfold Parish Council who are the first to sign up to this new scheme.

Sue Fosser Parish Clerk says “Chiddingfold Parish Council installed a charitable textile recycling facility in their Coxcombe Lane recreation ground car park. With a guaranteed minimumannual return to the Surrey Air Ambulance of £750, the council decided that this was an excellent scheme to aid the Air Ambulance Service, which has been called to assist residents on more than one occasion. In addition to providing financial support for the Surrey Air Ambulance, without using public funds, the parish council was pleased to be able to support the environment by providing a local recycling bank for clothing and shoes. Residents would otherwise have to travel some miles to the next nearest facility.”

Milk Bottle Tops:

We have had numerous offers from supporters who wish to collect ‘Milk Bottle Tops’ for us to raise funds.Having looked into this as a possible source of income only to find that the investment outweighs the return I’m sure you will agree that this is not a viable way to raise funds.Thank you for all your support.

Recycling - End of an era!

Over the years we have raised tens of thousands of pounds through recycling wastepaper, cardboard, inkjet cartridges, mobile phones, used stamps and even second hand books. The amount of money raised, has made a significant contribution to the development of our air ambulance service.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and it is therefore with great regret that we must inform you that for health and safety and fire hazard reasons, we are having to cease recycling at the Marden base, with immediate effect.

This is because our Insurers have advised us that the associated risk of storing recycling materials will necessitate the installation of sophisticated smoke detection and sprinkler systems and a significant increase in our insurance premium that will outweigh any of the profits we can achieve. Additionally, they are concerned about potential fire hazards being stored so closely to a three and half million pound helicopter!
