Rob Horne, aged 18, had only been driving a few weeks when he crashed his car on the A323 last October, his car left the road colliding with a tree leaving him in a life threatening condition. Rob was initially in a coma for several weeks and his extensive injuries included a severe brain injury necessitating four months of neurological rehabilitation. He has now left rehab and is making a full recovery. This, his family is aware, is down to the rapid arrival and actions of the Surrey Air Ambulance crew.
Graeme, Rob’s father, said ‘We know without the attendance of the Surrey Air Ambulance, we would have lost Rob, we were completely unaware before he had his accident that Surrey Air Ambulance was funded purely by donations and we owe everything to the Doctor and HEMS Paramedic on board the Surrey Air Ambulance that day, for operating on Rob at the scene to enable him to survive'
Graeme’s industry holds an annual charity auction, the ‘MIX DO’ hosted by Mix Interiors Magazine. This year the event was in aid of Surrey Air Ambulance and the £13,600 raised on the night, along with other donations, realised a total of £19,450. Rob and Graeme handed a cheque for this amount to the crew at the Dunsfold Park base.
County Fundraiser, Julie Jenkinson comments “Rob’s recovery is truly amazing and I’m so glad that we were able to help make a difference to his outcome. It has been great getting to know Rob and his family they have become true ambassadors for our Charity’
